CAPIZ, Philippines — A long-time dream of Governor Fredenil “Oto” Castro has finally come to life with the establishment of the Gugma para sa Capiz Cancer Treatment Center, a facility aimed at providing free cancer treatment to patients in the province and neighboring regions.
“I dream of having this kind of facility because whenever I am in the hospital, I see hundreds of patients, and some of them are suffering from cancer,” said Gov. Castro during the groundbreaking ceremony held at Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital, Barangay Lanot, Roxas City on October 28, 2025.
The center is set to cater not only to Capiz residents but also to patients from nearby provinces, including Iloilo, Aklan, and Masbate. The initiative seeks to make quality cancer care accessible to all, regardless of financial capability.
Supporting the project, Lions Club International contributed P8 million, while Garrod Inc. will supply essential medical equipment, including machines for chemotherapy and other cancer treatments.
Gov. Castro assured the public that all treatments at the center will be free of charge, underlining his commitment to helping cancer patients in the region.
The facility is expected to be completed within six months, with operations beginning as soon as the construction is finished.
