CAPIZ- Some municipalities in Capiz Province remain in the “red zone” due to cases of African Swine Fever (ASF).
In an interview with Bombo Radyo, Dr. Lloyd Burata, Veterinarian V of the Capiz Provincial Veterinary Office, stated that according to the National Map of the African Swine Fever (ASF) Prevention and Control Program, seven municipalities in the province remain in the “red zone,” areas still affected by ASF. These municipalities include Dumalag, Ivisan, Panay, Panitan, Pilar, Sapi-an, and Tapaz.
Additionally, some areas are in the “pink zone,” meaning no ASF cases have been detected, but they are at “high risk” due to their proximity to infected areas. These include the municipalities of Cuartero, Dao, Dumarao, Jamindan, Maayon, Mambusao, Pontevedra, Pres. Roxas, Roxas City, and Sigma.
It was revealed that during the testing conducted in June 2025, some pigs still tested positive for ASF.
Meanwhile, Dr. Burata also mentioned that the Department of Agriculture is continuing to test the ASF vaccine and is awaiting its availability for commercial use.
On the other hand, Burata noted that the production rate of pigs in the province has decreased, which is why some supplies are sourced from nearby provinces such as Negros Occidental, Iloilo, and Antique. He assured that pork products from these provinces are safe for consumption as they have been certified by the quarantine office of the Bureau of Animal Industry (BIA) and have complete documents proving they are from ASF-free areas.
Dr. Burata also assured the people of Capiz that his office is continuously monitoring pigs and their owners to ensure the safety of both humans and animals from the African Swine Fever.
