Benny Abante, the representative of Manila’s 6th District, believes that the early positioning of Sara Duterte for the 2028 elections could turn out to be a “blessing in disguise” for her potential opponents.
Abante said that the Vice President’s early declaration of political intentions may subject her to heightened public scrutiny, particularly in relation to the fourth impeachment complaint filed against her. The complaint reportedly involves allegations of “unexplained wealth.”
According to Abante, if the Vice President has nothing to hide, she should remain transparent and be accountable in order to preserve the public’s trust.
The lawmaker emphasized that early campaigning or positioning could open the door to more intense examination from both critics and the public as the 2028 national elections approach.
