ROXAS CITY, CAPIZ- Renowned geopolitical analyst Richard Heydarian firmly stood by his statement regarding the Supreme Court, asserting that it was based on “verifiable facts” and should be considered part of a free public discourse. This comes in light of an indirect contempt case filed against him by pro-Duterte lawyers.

The said case was filed by Atty. Rolex Suplico, currently a Board Member of Iloilo’s 5th District, and Atty. Mark Tolentino, a known supporter of former President Rodrigo Duterte.

In an exclusive interview with Bombo Radyo Roxas, Heydarian clarified that his social media statement about 13 out of 15 Supreme Court justices being appointed under the Duterte administration was a simple factual remark that can be proven and should not be treated as defamation.

Together with his legal counsel, Atty. Dino de Leon, they filed a Comment/Opposition in which they questioned the basis of the complaint and criticized the alleged misuse of jurisprudence by the petitioners. They also stated that those who filed the case must explain why they should not be held accountable for contempt of court.

Heydarian emphasized the importance of free discussion on national issues as a foundation of a functioning democracy.
