PONTEVEDRA, CAPIZ- Sangguniang Bayan Member Joshua Dumapig expressed disappointment after it was reported that Mayor Henry Tumlos did not sign the proposal letter for a free medical mission planned by a religious group from the United States.
The said activity was originally planned to be held in Barangay Rizal and three other barangays in the town of Pontevedra in February 2026. However, because it was not approved by the mayor, the much-anticipated project—which could have helped many residents—will no longer push through.
According to Dumapig, the cancellation of the program is deeply saddening, especially since it was an opportunity for poor individuals who cannot afford medicine, laboratory tests, and check-ups to receive free medical services. He also stated that many families lost hope because of what happened.
It was known that the mission aimed to benefit around 6,000 individuals from various barangays, through the participation of visiting doctors and health volunteers from abroad.
Meanwhile, Mayor Tumlos has yet to release a statement on the issue, and further clarification regarding his decision is still awaited.
