ROXAS CITY – After three consecutive days of heightened alert, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has officially lifted the yellow alert status on the Visayas grid, citing improved power supply across the region.
In an interview with Bombo Radyo Roxas, Engr. Edgar Diaz, General Manager of Capiz Electric Cooperative, Inc. (CAPELCO), confirmed that the grid is gradually returning to normal following an increase in available capacity.
NGCP lifted the yellow alert on Wednesday after recording a 494-megawatt capacity margin. Data showed that available capacity on the Visayas grid reached 2,711 megawatts, surpassing the 2,217 megawatts peak demand.
Diaz explained that a yellow alert is declared when the power reserve is insufficient to meet the transmission grid’s contingency requirements. This recent alert marks the fourth time this year that the Visayas grid has been placed under yellow alert.
According to NGCP data, 11 power plants have experienced forced outages from April to August. In addition, six plants have remained offline since 2023, while four others are operating at limited capacity leaving a total of 725.2 megawatts unavailable to the grid.
Meanwhile, power grid operations in Luzon and Mindanao remain stable and unaffected.
