The Philippine National Police (PNP) has confirmed that the bones found inside a sack retrieved from Taal Lake in Talisay, Batangas are human remains.
According to PNP Chief Gen. Nicolas Torre II, this confirmation comes from the initial assessment conducted by PNP forensic experts.
Torre also noted that the recovered bones may include a mix of human and animal remains. A total of five sacks were recovered from the lake and are now under thorough examination.
These remains have been turned over to the PNP Forensic Group for DNA cross-matching with samples from families of the missing sabungeros (cockfighting enthusiasts).
So far, 12 families have submitted DNA samples to assist in the identification process.
