HA LONG BAY, VIETNAM — Search and rescue operations continued on Sunday as authorities looked for five people still missing after a tourist boat capsized in Ha Long Bay on Saturday, leaving at least 37 people dead, according to VNExpress.
The vessel, named the “Wonder Sea,” was carrying 48 passengers and five crew members when it overturned amid sudden downpours and rough weather.
Most of the victims were families from Hanoi, including more than 20 children, officials said.
As of Saturday night, 11 people had been rescued, and 34 bodies recovered. Late in the evening, three crew members were also found dead inside the boat’s cabin. The search for the remaining missing persons continued into Sunday.
Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has extended condolences to the victims’ families and directed authorities to launch a full investigation into the cause of the incident. He also emphasized that any individuals or organizations found negligent will be held accountable.
