PANITAN, CAPIZ- Barangay Timpas in the town of Panitan, Capiz has officially been declared drug-free based on data from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).
In an interview with Bombo Radyo, Barangay Captain Teody Degones stated that the success of their barangay in the fight against illegal drugs began during the administration of former President Rodrigo Duterte.
He further explained that when Duterte launched a more intensified campaign against drugs, Barangay Timpas became more active, leading the Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council (BADAC) with the cooperation of local residents and the police.
It was revealed that this barangay is one of the four barangays declared drug-free by PDEA 6 in the entire region. The other three barangays are Brgy. Bayuyan, Estancia in the province of Iloilo, Brgy. Yulo Drive Arevalo, and Brgy. Katilingban Molo in Iloilo City.
The official assured that they will continue monitoring and keeping watch to ensure that the barangay remains drug-free. Anti-drug seminars, community outreach, and youth engagement programs are also being held to prevent the resurgence of illegal drugs in the area.
Captain Degones hopes that Barangay Timpas will serve as an example to other barangays in Capiz and the entire region, demonstrating that it is possible to stay drug-free through cooperation, determination, and leadership.
