CAPIZ – Capiz Mayor Receliste ‘Tanoy’ Escolin has expressed readiness to adhere to the Supreme Court’s rule of succession once a final decision is issued in his case.
Escolin previously filed a petition for certiorari with the Supreme Court following the dismissal by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) En Banc of his motion for reconsideration concerning the cancellation of his certificate of candidacy for the 2025 midterm elections.
In an interview with Bombo Radyo, Mayor Escolin said he will await the Supreme Court’s final ruling on the certiorari petition he filed. The certiorari seeks review by a higher court of a decision or action taken by a government body.
Escolin maintains that his service to the town was interrupted for 90 days due to a suspension imposed by the Office of the Ombudsman in 2024.
Once the mayoralty seat becomes vacant, the Supreme Court ruling will be followed, which would allow Vice Mayor Jhefferson Pastrana to assume the position of mayor instead of former Sangguniang Bayan member Bart Locsin.
