ROXAS CITY — After six long years, an international cargo ship finally docked again at Culasi Port in Roxas City, carrying over 132,000 sacks of rice from Vietnam.
The ship arrived this week, bringing a total of 132,327 sacks of rice — about 3,700 metric tons — along with other imported goods meant for local consumption.
Roxas City Mayor Ronnie Dadivas, in an interview with Bombo Radyo Roxas, welcomed the development and called it a big step forward for the city’s economy.
“This is a huge help not just for Roxas City, but also for the whole province of Capiz,” he said. “Imported rice and other goods now arrive directly here, making it easier and more efficient to meet the needs of our people.”
Mayor Dadivas said the shipment is a sign that Culasi Port is slowly regaining its vitality as a hub of trade and logistics in the region — something the city has not seen since 2019.
Officials from the Philippine Ports Authority and the Bureau of Customs are also expected to visit the city to ensure the smooth processing of the cargo.
The mayor said he’s hopeful this signals the start of more international ships coming to Roxas City, helping to create jobs and boost local businesses.
