A number of fans have rallied for the recognition of the late comedy icon Dolphy as a National Artist. On Wednesday, July 9, Manila 3rd District Representative Joel Chua filed House Resolution 41, just one day before the 13th anniversary of Dolphy’s death.

The title of National Artist is one of the highest honors in the Philippines, given to individuals who have made significant contributions to the country’s arts and culture. The resolution proposes that a hearing be held by the committees on Creative Industries and Basic Education & Culture, allowing the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) to formally nominate Dolphy—whose real name was Rodolfo “Dolphy” Quizon Sr.

The King of Filipino Comedy passed away in 2012 due to multiple organ failure and was laid to rest at Heritage Park in Taguig. His contributions to Philippine cinema and comedy have left a lasting legacy, and many hope this resolution will honor his impact on Filipino culture.
