The Senate has rejected the motion filed by Senate Minority Leader Vicente “Tito” Sotto III to lay on the table—or postpone—Senator Rodante Marcoleta’s motion to dismiss the impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte.

In a 19-5 vote, the Senate opted to proceed with Marcoleta’s motion, effectively setting aside Sotto’s appeal to await the final ruling of the Supreme Court before acting on the impeachment complaint.

Only five senators—all from the minority bloc—voted in favor of Sotto’s motion. These include Senators Risa Hontiveros, Loren Legarda, Migz Zubiri, Ping Lacson, and Sotto himself.

The decision means the Senate will now move forward to vote on Marcoleta’s motion, which could finally dispose of the impeachment case filed against the Vice President.
