The number of confirmed deaths has now exceeded 100, with several others still missing in the catastrophic floods in Texas, USA.
At Camp Mystic, a Christian girls’ summer camp in Kerr County, near the overflowing Guadalupe River, 27 children and one counselor have been confirmed dead, while ten other campers and one counselor remain missing.
Of the 84 victims, 56 were adults and 28 were children who died in Kerr County, where the Guadalupe River overflowed due to heavy rains before dawn on Friday, July 4.
According to the sheriff’s office of the county, the identities of 22 adults and 10 children have yet to be confirmed.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott stated that rescue operations are still ongoing, with rescuers continuing to search for the dozen or so missing individuals in the flooded areas.
In response to the flooding, more than 20 state agencies have been assisting in the rescue efforts across the state.
Meanwhile, messages of condolences have been received from different parts of the world, reaching the families who lost loved ones due to this tragedy. Among these messages was one from King Charles III, who wrote to US President Donald Trump to express his sympathies regarding the incident.
