MANILA — Former Vice President Leni Robredo was officially proclaimed mayor of Naga City on Tuesday, making history as the city’s first female to hold the post once led by her late husband, former Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo.
Robredo clinched a landslide victory over rivals Toots De Quiros, Louie Ortega, and Ganda Abrazado.
Her running mate, Camarines Sur Third District Representative Gabriel Bordado Jr., also won the vice mayoral race. Bordado had previously served as vice mayor under Jesse Robredo’s administration.
“This has long been my dream — not only to improve the lives of the people of Naga but to show the entire country that good governance directly benefits the people,” Robredo said.
During her campaign, Robredo pledged to tackle issues raised by civil society groups and people’s organizations, particularly the transparent and efficient use of city funds.
While acknowledging the challenges ahead, she emphasized that the legacy and programs of her late husband would serve as a valuable foundation.
“We need to empower citizens to actively participate in governance. My ultimate goal is to translate the concept of good governance into terms that people can understand and truly feel in their daily lives,” she added.
