Malacañang has revised Vice President Sara Duterte appeal regarding witness Alias Rene (Michael Maurillo), who had earlier retracted his testimony.
Palace Press Secretary Undersecretary Claire Castro stated that it might be more appropriate for Maurillo to file charges himself, given his earlier claims that he was allegedly coerced into testifying against the Duterte family and religious leader Apollo Quiboloy.
Castro emphasized that by filing charges, a trial could take place, allowing for proper cross-examination of the witness. This would determine whether Maurillo’s claims about being influenced to testify against the Dutertes and Quiboloy are true or not.
Before his recantation, Maurillo had testified during a Senate hearing that he had witnessed the Dutertes carrying firearms from Quiboloy’s property.
