Roxas City – Operations at Roxas City Airport in Barangay Baybay were temporarily disrupted after an unattended bag was discovered at the arrival area, prompting alarm among passengers and personnel.
In an exclusive interview with Bombo Radyo Roxas, Police Lieutenant Jose Dexter Paulin, officer-in-charge of the Roxas Airport Police Station, said they immediately responded after airport staff reported the suspicious item, which was initially suspected to contain an explosive device.
Lt. Paulin said standard security protocols were promptly implemented, including the evacuation of certain sections of the terminal and the temporary suspension of airport activities while authorities inspected the bag.
The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team, headed by Police Chief Master Sergeant Denie Estonina, team leader of the Provincial Explosive Ordnance Disposal and K9 Unit Capiz, conducted a thorough examination and later confirmed that the bag did not contain any harmful materials.
The situation lasted for more than an hour before the area was declared clear and safe.
Lt. Paulin reminded the public, especially travelers, not to leave their belongings unattended in public places particularly in high-traffic areas like airports.
He also assured that strict security measures continue to be enforced at Roxas Airport to ensure the safety of passengers and airport personnel.
