A 68-year-old woman, known by the alias “Lita”, died while attempting to cast her vote inside a polling precinct at Marita Elementary School in Barangay Marita, President Roxas, Capiz, on election day.
According to Police Provincial Spokesperson Capt. Merry Chris Dela Cruz, the woman was in the process of voting when she suddenly began to tremble and collapsed from her chair. Witnesses said she appeared to lose consciousness without warning.
Emergency responders from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) quickly transported her to Bailan District Hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival by attending physicians.
Authorities suspect a cardiac arrest as the possible cause of death, though a full investigation is still underway.
The victim was a resident of the same barangay. Local officials have expressed their condolences to her family and assured the public that health and safety protocols remain in place at polling stations.
