Mapua University gave its NCAA Season 101 campaign a significant lift by defeating San Sebastian College-Recoletos in straight sets, 25-22, 25-23, 25-19, at the San Andres Sports Complex on Saturday.

The victory was especially important for Mapua, which had struggled recently with five losses in eight matches. With the win, the Cardinals improved to a 5-5 record in Group A and moved into sole possession of third place, while the Stags dropped to 5-6 and slipped to fourth.

Finishing among the top three in their group is key, as it guarantees a berth in the quarterfinals, whereas the teams at the bottom must compete in a play-in round.

Mapua got strong performances from Arjay Ramos (17 points), Barbie San Andres (13), and Olsen Jamisola (12), helping the Cardinals pull ahead and close out the win despite San Sebastian’s efforts.
