ROXAS CITY, CAPIZ – The Roxas City Government has announced the acquisition of a new decibel meter — a specialized device used to measure environmental noise levels.
In an interview with Bombo Radyo Roxas, City Councilor Fernando Luis Viterbo, Chairman of the Committee on Police, Fire, and Peace & Order, said that the device will be handed over to the Traffic Management Unit (TMU) and the City Ordinance Regulatory Enforcement (CORE) team. This move is part of the city’s effort to strengthen the implementation of noise regulations.
According to Viterbo, complaints continue to pour in from residents regarding excessive noise, particularly from motorcycles with open mufflers and other sources. With the help of the decibel meter, authorities will now be able to quickly and accurately determine whether noise levels exceed the legal limit of 99 decibels.
He also added that training will be conducted for personnel assigned to operate the device to ensure it is used properly and effectively. The technology will serve as a reliable basis for issuing warnings and citation tickets to violators of the city’s noise ordinance.
Viterbo explained that, for now, the use of the decibel meter is still in the demo phase and is being implemented in aid of legislation. However, it forms part of the city’s long-term goal to build a peaceful, orderly, and livable community.
The Roxas City Government is also planning to provide each barangay with its own decibel meter in the coming months, empowering local officials to enforce the ordinance against noise pollution more effectively.
