More than 160 people are still missing nearly a week after catastrophic floods hit Texas on July 4, claiming the lives of at least 109 individuals.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott has warned that the number of missing persons could rise as search operations continue.
Kerr County, in central Texas, has been the hardest hit, with 161 people reported missing by family, friends, and neighbors. This area is known as “Flash Flood Alley,” and it has experienced severe flooding, particularly after the Guadalupe River overflowed near a Christian youth summer camp. Tragically, 94 lives have been lost in the region, including 27 children and counselors from the camp.
The ongoing search and rescue efforts are facing major challenges due to relentless floodwaters and thick mud in the hardest-hit counties. As of Tuesday evening, five youth campers, a counselor, and another child who was not part of the camp remain missing.
