PRESIDENT ROXAS, CAPIZ- Mayor Receleste Escolin of President Roxas, Capiz, has formally filed a motion for reconsideration with the Comelec En Banc after the Comelec First Division canceled his Certificate of Candidacy (COC) due to an alleged violation of the three-term limit rule.
In an interview with Bombo Radyo Roxas, Escolin expressed confidence that he will still get justice, citing Comelec Chairman George Garcia who reportedly said, “Not all decisions of the First Division are upheld by the En Banc.”
According to him, he will continue to defend his stance against the disqualification case filed against him, and he is prepared to bring the case to the Supreme Court if the Comelec En Banc does not favor the appeal he filed.
It can be recalled that the Comelec First Division canceled his COC after it favored the petition of Richard Baltar and Arnulfo Degala, who argued that Escolin violated the three-term limit rule. Based on the decision, the three-month suspension imposed on Escolin by the Ombudsman was not sufficient to consider his term as interrupted.
Escolin was suspended in February 2025 due to a simple misconduct case but was re-elected and proclaimed the winner as mayor in the May 13, 2025 elections.
According to the mayor, it is clear to him that his term is not continuous because it was temporary and he was removed from office, which is why he believes he should not be disqualified.
Escolin also assured that the services of his administration will continue for the people of President Roxas while his case is still being heard by the En Banc.
