ROXAS CITY, CAPIZ- The Roxas City Police Station received a prestigious award after Police Lieutenant Colonel Ricardo B. Jomuad Jr. was recognized as the National Outstanding Police Community Affairs and Development (PCAD) Junior Police Commissioned Officer in the entire country.
This recognition is a result of the successful implementation of Project AMOMA, a new strategy in community policing.
In an interview with Bombo Radyo Roxas, Police Master Sergeant Mary Grace Jacinto, Focal Person of Project AMOMA at the Roxas City Police Station, stated that the success of Project AMOMA proves the effectiveness of the police’s coordination with communities, especially in remote areas.
Project AMOMA, which stands for “Aton Mangunguma, Mangingisda kag Mamumugon Organisahon, Manggad nga Dapat Amligan” (Organizing Farmers, Fisherfolk, and Peasants: Our Resources to be Protected), introduced a new form of public service where farmers, fishermen, and community members actively take part in maintaining peace and order.
According to Police Master Sergeant Jacinto, the project is part of the broader Revitalized Police in the Barangay (R-PSB) program, which aims to strengthen police presence in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDAs).
Through this program, there has been an improvement in the standard of living, food security, and the residents’ trust in the police.
Jacinto also shared that there were several barangays that previously faced issues with insurgency and criminality, but the situation has significantly improved due to the project.
PLtCol. Jomuad Jr.’s success at the national level serves as an inspiration to other police units in the region and the entire country. The Roxas City Police Station now aims to expand the project and encourage other provinces to adopt the Project AMOMA model.
